Have you written today, anon?

There is no downside to a daily writing habit

The written word is powerful

Good morning, anon. I assume you have written something today, yes? No?

I haven’t talked much about the craft of writing here, which is odd considering I write for a living. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to overdo it. The strange thing is that my thinking of writing has shifted a lot over the past 6-12 months.

A year ago, writing opened a doorway into a highly lucrative world. And I will not deny this: if you are looking for a side hustle, look no further than learning how to write. Most digital side hustles are built around writing as the cornerstone. But something unexpected happened to me: the further down the rabbit hole of writing I went, the more my perspective of it changed.

Writing is a vocation, for sure. But moreover, writing is a craft. Writing is attainable to every single person on the planet. The threshold to entry is non-existent (pen, paper, phone, laptop). Don’t even bother @ing me about this either; everyone has a phone, and everyone has access to a computer. Yes, I include the library in this.

If you want it bad enough, you’ll go after it.

There are so many mediums to choose from

The first thing you really need to figure out is what you want to do with your writing. Are you going after an income opportunity or writing for the sake of creativity? By the way, these are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Will you raise twenty mil to release a series of books? I have no idea. But I do know that you won’t go anywhere if you don’t do something. Inaction castrates your dreams. Taking action always gives you something in return. Sure, you won’t win the first couple of times. Maybe the first 10-20 times. Who knows, maybe the first 100-500 times.

But repetitions are the foundation of success. Look, I don’t care what avenue you choose. Maybe you should try out Medium; I hear a lot of positive stories about it. Or you could go to NameCheap and get hosting for a cheap and simple WordPress website. It does not matter what you do or how you do it; you are leaving a lot on the table if you aren’t cranking out writing every day.

With all that said, if you are interested in content writing for a side hustle, or a potential career change, you really should hire a coach or consultant to help you avoid a lot of the nasty pitfalls along the way. It will save you a lot of time; for me, I could have probably started making real money in a year or two instead of six years if I hadn’t been cheap and had just paid a coach instead.
