The nature of politics
I used to be kind of a political junkie. Not just any political junkie, but the hard-right variety. I turned 18 a couple of days before the 2000 election, proudly casting my vote for W. Hanging Chad, anyone?
Fast forward for years, and I’m stationed in Texas, voting for W again and staunchly GWOT (things might’ve been different had I deployed to Iraq).
2008? McCain. 🤮
2012? Romney. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
But by then, something was changing. By 2015, I’d been in a horrible custody battle for my now-adult daughter for six years and change.
I’d seen the belly of the beast, which, in my case, was the county court. I gravitated toward libertarianism and dove right into devouring Mises and Rothbard.
Anyway, I voted for someone totally forgettable in 2016 (an independent, maybe ?) and watched with detached intrigue as the “you’re fired!” guy moved into the White House.
Well, 2020 came and went. We traded out an orange guy for a clueless guy, and the libertarian party also proved clueless and weird.
Finally, it dawned on me that politics is a forever-losing game. No matter what camp you’re in, it doesn’t make a damn bit of difference. Libertarians haven’t ever gotten one inch closer to their utopia in the 50 years of the party’s existence. At best, a libertarian mayor gets voted in and gets rid of traffic ticket quotas for a term.
“It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
And odds are, you’ll never be in it unless you compromise your soul.
But you know what you can control?
Learning and earning.
You can always research valuable skills, learn how to do them and earn money doing them.
Maybe you with your job like I did. Or maybe you’re padding savings or buying assets by working on the side.
Wherever you go with this, starting a service-based business is by far the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to earn money on your own. These include:
Writing
Web design and development
Taxes and Accounting
Graphic Design
Tech support
And the list goes on.
Do you want to do something powerful with your life? Fuck tribal politics. This is the biggest waste of time in existence. Do something with your life instead. Immerse yourself into learning something.
“The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.”
Start a business, and live life on your own terms. It doesn’t have to be a full-time business. But who knows, it might grow into one. But stop giving those people in the Beltway any more attention than they deserve, and they don’t deserve much.
