Identity politics for the L
Don't get wrapped up in that dumb shit
So this is going to be sort of a caveat to my article yesterday. It is not so much about events in the world in general as it is about the black eye that is identity, politics, and the very dark road that it takes us down.
Identity politics is a losing proposition. It has always been, and it will always be. You only need to look at the 20th century to see the mass graves that they led to, which is not rhetorical; there were mass graves that were the direct result of identity politics.
Countrymen stacking the bodies of other countrymen because of Ideological differences to the tunes of millions.
Am I standing here saying that there are going to be mass graves in America because of identity politics? I certainly hope not. Anyone thumping on the war drums for a Civil War 2.0 is dangerously deranged. Think about how much farther ahead American civilization would have been after 1865 had there been no Civil War. Had the union been allowed to dissolve peacefully, what would our current union look like today?
Think about all the technological advances, medical advances, and scientific advances that were lost because of the severe loss of life and how far that pushes back our culture and our civilization.
Generally speaking, this email list is about life issues and particularly how to start and create your own side hustle or full-time hustle. But we are not robots. Major events happening on our doorstep impact everything, including our business aspirations.
I do think we are reaching a critical mass where it may very well become necessary to cater more specifically to those you are ideologically aligned with. This is a big place, and America is still flush with cash. There is no reason to sacrifice your morals or your ethical compass to make a sale. Besides, if you enter into a service transaction like all freelance contracts are, you will despise the process. I had never had a good working experience with a client that I had major ideological differences with; eventually, it always comes bubbling up to the surface.
I could go into details, but there’s really no point in it.
I think the key takeaways are this: don’t get swept up in political hysteria. It is a dead-end road with no ROI. With that said, be really cautious about who you do business with. As a freelancer, you have tons of latitude in this regard, so choose wisely. Don’t like or agree with your current stable of clients? Go find some new ones that better align with your core beliefs. You’ll be happier if you stay far away from those who don’t.
And, the political class will never, ever provide freedom for you. The only person who can change the tide for you is you. This is the easiest time that has ever existed to do that, so my suggestion is that you tap into that. Five to ten years ago was the best time to get started, but the second-best time is now. It is not easy; it is just the easiest time in human history.
Ready to get started with your new hustle? (I’m really starting to hate the phrase side hustle) Let’s get together and see what we can come up with for you.
