Hustle porn is gross 🤮

I'm taking a quick break from my freelancer schtick

I started my Twitter account three years ago, right when I quit my job to freelance full-time.

If I were much more prudent than I am, it would have been launched five or six years ago, maybe even more. But here we are.

Pretty early on, I fell into the hustle-porn trap. I made talking points that I didn’t even understand or didn’t really apply to me and my work. I wrote an ebook that I promoted all the time.

And you know what? It all added up to nada. All of my leads have been from Upwork, and my social media persona has nothing to do with them. So that got me thinking: what is it I really want to say?

What do I want to do, especially with an email list and Twitter account? Because I don’t want to peddle any more crappy courses or ebooks about Upwork profiles. Frankly, that is boring and is not fulfilling in the slightest.

I came to this conclusion today in the second half of a coaching call with my friend Mike. To be honest, we didn’t talk about work stuff much at all, and I really appreciated that. It dawned on me that I was really glad we weren’t talking about work.

I’m not really sure where this leaves this newsletter. It might be a daily newsletter, or it might not. Sometimes I might bring up freelance stuff but that certainly won’t be a condition for publication. More often than not, I’ll probably just talk story about anecdotes and observations about life.

That sounds a lot more interesting to me.
